Alternative Investments

Growth & resilience through diversification

The UAE is a stable and secure platform to tap into the emerging markets of the Middle East, Africa and South Asia.

The Alternative Investment Strategic Vertical revolves around OWI finding and enabling partnerships and making investments in companies and opportunities, which are aligned with and guided by

01

Creating authentic, longterm UAE geopolitical strategies

The UAE, as part of its Strategic Impact Objectives, will align with geopolitical strategies that contribute towards the economic development of the UAE, its neighbouring states, and the stability of the region. One such strategy that the UAE has actively supported is the China Belt Road

Initiative (“BRI”). BRI is a global initiative. Its focus is building the historic silk road and focusing on Asia, Eastern Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East.

02

UAE foreign policy objectives

Its first President, HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, expressed UAE foreign policy principles that included an underlying belief in justice in international dealings between states. A declaration of non-interference in the internal affairs of other states and the pursuit, wherever possible, of peaceful resolutions of disputes, with strong support for international institutions, such as the United Nations.

03

Future Foresighting.

As part of its strategic impact objectives, the UAE will align with geopolitical strategies that contribute to its and neighbouring states economic development and stability in the region. The UAE has actively supported one such strategy, China’s Belt Road Initiative, a global initiative. Its focus is rebuilding the historic Silk Road and focusing on countries in Asia, Eastern Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East.

The Future Foresight Strategy involves building future models for the health, educational, developmental, and environmental sectors, the harmonisation of the current governmental policies, in addition to building national capacities in the field of future foresighting, establishing international partnerships, laboratories and launching research reports on the future of the various sectors in the country. The strategy aims to set governmental systems that make ‘foresighting the future’ a part of the government’s strategic planning.

Diversification is the biggest driver of growth

Diversification can be visualised as a table. One-legged tables do exist, but they are not as stable as three-legged tables. Three-legged tables are great, but often a four-legged table can stand even if you remove one of the legs. Diversification is adaptability. Every entrepreneur knows that the market is shifting under everyone’s feet at all times. However, if there are more facets to your business, you can develop the one that is best suited to new evolutions in the business landscape.

Our Investment Focus

The OWI Alternative Investments business model focuses on developing investment opportunities and partnerships that contribute to the UAE Strategic Impact Objectives. The One World Partners team will only secure for investment, impact/value-adding assets and projects which enable UAE foreign policy objectives, UAE geopolitical strategies, and Future Foresighting.

The OWI Alternative Investment Strategic Vertical supports the following investment opportunities:

Co-investing alongside leading in-country governmental agencies

Purpose:

To facilitate increased trade/political relations between the UAE and the country to be invested in for geopolitical reasons. This is to support the UAE’s commitment to invest in a country to assist the government with driving economic activity.

Approach:

OWI will work with and invest through in-country respected governmental ministries, agencies and organisations. This approach provides increased governance and certainty regarding capital protection, ensuring that the UAE strategic objectives are met. OWI will work closely with the government investment teams in selecting, evaluating and monitoring investments.

Foreign development aid related investments

Purpose:

The investments will focus on assisting political allies who are vulnerable and in need of financial assistance to drive vital areas. This investment will fall under the ‘Foreign Development Aid’ category.

Approach:

The critical difference between C (Foreign Development Aid related Investments) & A (Co-investing alongside leading in-country governmental agencies) is that C’s investment repayment structures are either very long-dated or, at times, may not require repayment. Investment structures could include sovereign guarantees and payments received in terms of barter arrangements, etc.

Investing in in-country companies & forming partnerships with in-country specialists

Purpose:

These investments will typically be large scale investments. They will directly benefit the UAE, ensuring the future strategic supply of products and services to the UAE and further establishing alliances between countries.

Approach:

By working with and investing through (and alongside) in-country respected governmental ministries, agencies and organisations. The approach provides increased governance and certainty concerning capital protection and ensures that the UAE strategic objectives are met. OWI will work closely with the government investment teams in selecting, evaluating and monitoring investments.

Innovative financing for a net zero future

Purpose:

To close the capital gap for a global energy transition and deploy breakthrough technologies aimed at decarbonisation. These investments directly support the UAE’s national drive to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, making the Emirates the first Middle East and North Africa (MENA) nation to do so.

Approach:

OWI will provide innovative capital structures supported by our enabling business ecosystem to meet the needs for transition finance. Working across sectors and with private and public participants, OWI will design individually tailored products and services to facilitate financing needs on a case-by-case basis and build business models that increase the probability of commercial success.
